The Rokoko Art Gallery the kozmic soul kaboom
The Rokoko Art Gallery primarily exhibits the artwork of local artists A.me and Mitch Alamag as well as a revolving exhibit of other mostly local artists. The gallery is the fulfillment of a lifetime dream to create a permanent home to showcase our artwork. Built from our design on a property uniquely zoned for both working and living in the town of Mesilla which is located within the city of Las Cruces NM.
The Pueblo style building fulfilled the towns requirement that buildings remain authentic to the indigenous architecture, while the distinctive and much appreciated sage green exterior color was a special request that was kindly granted. The building is designed with several distinct spaces that can be used as individual gallerys or flow together as one larger gallery. A kitchen is available to host opening events and receptions with food and beverage. The landscape was of great importance and is filled with native plants as well as a revolving collection of large scale outdoor sculpture by local artists. The building is further embellished with custom mosaic entranceways, signage and interior elements like backsplashes and nichos.
The gallery opened in 2011. Soon after we started hosting themed group exhibits in conjunction with showing our own work. From the onset, we believed that group exhibits should be open to all artists, regardless of level of expertise and are therefore non-juried, however we also hold solo and select group shows that are considered invitational.
The building is also available to the community for special events such as fund raisers, classes, entertainment and art opening receptions. Being working artists, we travel frequently and are often away, so currently the gallery is open on Saturdays from 12-5pm and by appointment. Our friend and primary gallery manager Steve is there most Saturdays, however other artists and friends assume the helm now and then. Every 2nd Satuday of the month we are open until 7pm as part of the Dona Ana Arts Council’s “10-10 Arts Hop” program which features several other local galleries.
We invite you to visit and see the work in person and perhaps catch a special exhibit and we encourage you to join our email list so we can invite you to future events. If you are interested in exhibiting your art or participating in any way please contact us by email and we will discuss your thoughts and ideas. We would love to include you. Your support is greatly appreciated by us and the art community at large in Las Cruces.
